We have all spent time in the sun we regret. In fact, sun exposure is the main culprit behind fine and deeper facial wrinkles, freckles, age spots (also known as sun or liver spots), leathery skin texture, dull-colored skin and enlarged pores. Solutions Medical Center will remove the signs of sun damage and restore your youthful appearance!

What is LimeLight? (IPL)

Intense Pulsed Light systems are exceptionally effective at treating pigmented lesions, sun and age spots, uneven skin tone and diffused redness. However, not ALL IPL systems are the same.  At Solutions, we use a high powered IPL system called Limelight from the Cutera Laser. The visible light delivered by the Limelight is selectively absorbed by the pigmented spots or redness in your skin. It can also treat widespread blotchiness, freckles, skin redness and individual fine veins. This treatment is sometimes referred to as photorejuvenation.

How does it work?

The LimeLight uses light to heat the pigment in the top layer of your skin to reduce discoloration and promote a more even skin tone.  The pigmented spots on your skin selectively absorb the visible light delivered with the LimeLight procedure. It is also absorbed by hemoglobin where you have redness and excessive flushing or blushing. The heating of the pigmented cells causes the therapeutic result, effectively destroying the damaged cells and removing discolorations to vastly improve skin tone.

How is your treatment different from other options?

The LimeLight treats specific areas without abrading the skin’s surface. There is no need to interrupt your normal routine.

What areas can be treated?

Virtually any part of your body with sun damage, including “age” or “liver” spots and freckles, can be safely treated. Red and brown mottling of the skin develops over time and is common in areas of your body most exposed to sun exposure, even when you have not been “laying out” or purposely developing a tan. The face, chest, hands and arms are the most popular areas for treatment because they typically have the most sun exposure. Both single, discrete spots and skin densely covered with freckles respond well to treatment

What does it feel like?

When the handpiece is placed on your skin, it will feel cool and comfortable. When the pulse of light is delivered, you may feel a mild, brief stinging sensation.

What can I expect afterwards?

Immediately following the treatment, the spots may start to darken. You may notice a slight reddening of the surrounding skin. This typically subsides within a couple of hours. Over the course of the next one to three weeks, darkened spots will fade and flake off. If you have diffuse redness or the fine veins are treated, you may have some swelling a day or two after treatment. The blushing will gradually lighten over the treatment package.

How many treatments will I need?

Typically, three treatments are sufficient to see dramatic results. Additional treatments may be required for very large or dark spots or for densely covered areas. When you come in for your consultation, we will give you information tailored to your particular needs and desires.

When will I see results?

Most will find that the majority of their treated spots have shown significant improvement within two to three weeks of treatment. However, your final result may not be apparent for several months.

Can anyone have it done?

Anyone with a light or medium color skin may be a candidate for the LimeLight treatment. Those with darker skin tones may not. We will assess your particular skin type and let you know if you’re a candidate at the time of your consultation.
