What are Venous Lakes?
Venous lakes are harmless, solitary, dark blue to purple lesions mostly found on the sun-exposed surfaces of the lip, face and ears. These are caused by the dilation of veins under the skin surface. Although harmless, many patients do seek treatment for cosmetic reasons.
They are typically found on sun exposed areas such as the ears, lips or neck area. Although these lesions may resemble a nodular melanoma, the fact that they lighten with compression and are slow growing are important distinguishing details.
